Press Release
Nayna Networks Delivers Industry’s First Multi-Network, Multi-Service Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) Platform
Industry’s First EPON/Point-to-Point Gigabit Ethernet Product Family Offers Unprecedented Performance and Network Adaptability, Allows Service Providers to Affordably Deliver Multiple Voice/Video/Data Services on a Single Converged IP PlatformSan Jose, Calif., USA, Tokyo, Japan and Paris, France - May 3, 2004 - Nayna Networks, Inc., a leading provider of next generation EFM broadband access solutions, today unveiled three products in its flagship ExpressSTREAM series, a breakthrough platform for voice/video/data (triple play) service delivery over a converged Gigabit Ethernet access network. Nayna’s ExpressSTREAM is the first in the industry to deliver the performance, low cost and network adaptability - including combined IEEE 802.3ah compliant point-to-point and point-to-multipoint EPON support - necessary to enable the rapid deployment of affordable Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) service.
The new ExpressSTREAM platform delivers a number of dramatic improvements over existing EFM products, including:
· Unprecedented Network Adaptability: multiple services (IPvoice/video/data and legacy PBX/RF video/TDM), fiber (FTTP) and copper interfaces, and the first unified platform design to deliver both IEEE 802.3ah point-to-point and point-to-multipoint (EPON) compliance, give service providers the flexibility to deploy EFM over the broadest possible range of services and topologies.
· Best-in-Class Performance and Scalability: with up to 32 Gigabits per second throughput and 48 million packets per second of processing - five to ten times the performance of competitive access products - ExpressSTREAM offers the performance necessary to support true triple-play service delivery. Moreover, ExpressSTREAM’s fiber sharing supports up to 127 sites per single EPON, four times the scalability of competitive products, and 84 PONs per 7 foot rack for cost-effective carrier deployments
· Highest Return on Investment (ROI): ExpressSTREAM is designed to establish new CAPEX and OPEX savings benchmarks for EFM delivery, enabling rapid return on carrier investments
"The ability to converge and deliver multiple services on a single network is critical to service provider success today because it decreases costs and increases top line revenue," said Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics Research. "What I like about the Nayna Networks approach is that it encompasses not just triple-play voice/video/data, but also legacy traffic. This gives providers the flexibility to support current service requirements including POTS and RF video, and move to VoIP and IP/HDTV service when needed in each of their various markets."
"Service providers want to deliver next generation bandwidth and services over their networks, and proven Ethernet technology promises a practical and affordable solution - yet the initial wave of EFM products hasn’t delivered," noted Naveen Bisht, president and CEO, Founder, Nayna Networks. "We took a different tack, designing a platform from the ground up that can adapt to a wide range of network requirements, while offering the performance and cost savings necessary to make these new triple play services a reality. The result is ExpressSTREAM."
Nayna Networks has already delivered the ExpressSTREAM products to customers in Korea and Japan. According to Fumio Hanaoka, president and CEO of DSL, Inc., a Tokyo-based systems integrator specializing in high-rise MDU and MTU solutions, "Nayna’s ExpressSTREAM gives us an 802.3ah-compliant PON platform to handle a complete range of triple play services, including both IP and RF video. In this market, the ability to handle RF video shall be critical, because of a significant need to increase that bandwidth to cover HDTV transmission. Our customers need this kind of equipment, and since ExpressSTREAM offers QoS and VLAN support, we can offer multiple services with a single fiber line."
Network and Service AdaptabilityThanks to a unique ground-up design, the ExpressSTREAM product family supports almost any type of network service or design topology, giving service providers the ability to adapt the product to their specific application - and even mix and match as needs change. It is the first in the industry to support typical point-to-point Fiber To The Premises (FTTP) topologies as well as fiber sharing point-to-multipoint Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) layouts, and offers both copper and optical interfaces. From a service perspective, ExpressSTREAM supports any combination of voice/video/data delivery (including TDM data, legacy voice, RF broadcast and multicast video), all over a converged IP network in any layout desired (bus, star, ring, point-to-point, mesh, add/drop, etc.)
Performance and ScalabilityNayna’s products offer best-in-class performance and scalability, ensuring efficient delivery of advanced triple play service without performance degradation such as jitter or packet delay. Nayna is initially unveiling the first three members of its ExpressSTREAM series, the XR2000, XC4000 and XC12000 EFM Optical Line Terminals, providing four to 16 slots and 2 Gbps to 32 Gbps of throughput in a 6RU chassis. These carrier-class switches are ideal for a wide range of installations (CO, POP, MDU/MTU) and applications (gigabit Ethernet connections, SONET/SDH delivery, wireless/cellular backhaul, T1/E1/PBX service, RF or IP video, VoIP, VLANs, etc.). The XC12000 can even support up to 84 PONs in a single rack and 127 sites per PON, the highest density in the industry.
The ExpressSTREAM XR2000 is ideal for remote multi-dwelling unit (MDU) and multi-tenant unit (MTU) locations such as cyber apartment buildings and office towers. The ExpressSTREAM XR2000 makes it feasible for the service provider to meet end-user bandwidth demands, in a lower cost package. The ExpressSTREAM XR2000 can be configured to offer up 2 Gbps of throughput and can be equipped with wall mount brackets for installations without 19-inch racks.
Highest ROI Nayna Networks has designed the ExpressSTREAM family to reduce carrier capital and operating expenditures while improving customer satisfaction and service revenue, ensuring a rapid return on EFM investments. ExpressSTREAM allows service providers to use a single platform from a single vendor to address a wide range of broadband applications, while its modular pay-as-you-go, hot-swappable architecture ensures that capital outlay closely tracks with service delivery. Operational expenses are controlled through a plug-and-play CPE architecture, high redundancy, automatic, remote configuration and minimal size and power requirements. ExpressSTREAM solutions also provide a full suite of carrier-class features for billable Quality of Service (QOS), including port rate control, SLA monitoring and Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) support.
"As service providers upgrade their network with the most advanced optical technologies, it is important for them to select a solution that serves multiple needs over a single fiber network - including critical voice, data, RF video and IP video," said Jim Connor, director of marketing, Nayna Networks. "The ExpressSTREAM gigabit EFM platform provides a higher ROI compared to legacy SONET/SDH equipment, while offering the carrier class features service providers require for billing and quality enforcement."
